As part of ‘Outdoor Learning Week’, Year 6 decided to conduct a mathematical investigation using natural materials from the outdoor environment.
The aim was to find ten sticks and arrange them into piles. The rule was that one stick should then be taken from each pile to create a new pile. The challenge was to see if the combination 7-1-1-1 could be created (without starting with it)!
We recorded the combinations systematically using chalk. Well done to Ruby, Tamzin (and Miss Mitchinson) who were the first to solve the puzzle!
Why not grab 10 sticks this week and have a go yourself? Year 6 – can you provide any hints to help others solve the problem?
