Year 6 had such an interesting afternoon following a visit from Amanda, Wilf and Lewis from Bowes Railway. Wilf, a former miner, told us all about the work of a Bowes Railway as well as men and women across the country during the war effort. We had the chance to handle real objects such as a rationing book, part of a fire hose and an oil latern used in the mines. We also got to see what a ration of sweets for a family would look like.
Lewis, who takes part in battle reenactments, brought us a range of German artefacts and told us more about how the Germans fought the war.
Thank you so much to Amanda, Wilf and Lewis.
