Holidays in Term Time

Can I remind you of the statutory regulations for the taking of holidays in term time from 1 September 2013. Previously, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 allowed Head Teachers to grant leave of absence, of up to 10 days per academic year, for the purpose of a family holiday during term time in “special circumstances”. Head Teachers could also grant extended leave for more than ten school days in exceptional circumstances. However, amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that Head Teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time. This means that holidays may not be taken in term time and that ALL children must be in school for the full thirty nine weeks.

Please do not book holidays during term time. All absences will be treated as unauthorised, the Legal Intervention Team will become involved and parents / carers will be liable for fines.
