Animal encounters
This half term the children in Reception have experienced a very special animal encounter. We had 10 eggs delivered which we cared for in the incubator until they were ready to hatch. Throughout last week we hatched all 10 eggs and are lucky enough to be caring for 5 girls and 5 boys. The children have taken great care of the chicks making sure they are well fed, watered, warm and have had lots of space to run around. The children had a large paddling pool to observe the chicks from a far. As the chicks got a little bigger and we were sure we knew how to handle them we managed to have a little cuddle before they go off to their new homes outside. We discussed with the children the lifecycle of a hen and how normally the hen would sit on the eggs. They have loved learning all about this fascinating life cycle and understand how a hen hatches her chicks.
