Attendance & Absence

People sometimes wrongly think of learning as filling a bucket with water: if you stop for a while, you can continue later.

A better way of thinking about learning is filling a bucket with water, but the bucket has holes: if you stop, some of the water can leak out.

To keep that bucket topped up (helping learning stick), it is vital that children attend school as much as possible.

Parents and carers are expected to inform school when their child is absent and provide a reason for this absence.

We monitor individual pupils’ attendance very closely and actively contact families where there is cause for concern.

A newsletter goes out every month with attendance news. Certificates and prizes are used to reward consistently good or clearly improved attendance.

We record our attendance in accordance with the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006
